Zachary Viet Pine is a composer hailing from the vibrant city of New Orleans. With a background in sousaphone performance and a passion for directing community ensembles, his musical journey has been deeply influenced by spiritual elements. Zach draws inspiration from his time in Berkeley, California, as well as his uncle's Zen practice, which have both left an indelible mark on his creative process.
Zach's compositions are known for their diversity in instrumental techniques, often showcasing his expertise in digital manipulation and incorporating thematic quotations. His musical education has been enriched through mentorships with renowned composers like Ken Ueno, Max Dulaney, and Rick Snow. Notably, his compositions have been performed by esteemed ensembles such as the Mivos Quartet, Bent Duo, Nouveau Classical Project, Ensemble LINEA, and the International Contemporary Ensemble.
Beyond his role as a composer, Zach also holds the position of Music Director at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans. In this capacity, he leads congregational hymns and directs the choir, frequently crafting arrangements and compositions tailored for liturgical purposes. Zach is wholeheartedly committed to exploring the transformative power of music within the realms of spirituality and community, making a profound impact through his artistic and leadership endeavors.
